I think children need parents to tell them their options - i.e. telling them all the different genders and sexual orientations that exist (to the best of that parent's ability).
I had dysphoria but I had no way to categorize it. I got sorted into being gay very quickly but that label didn't fit. Learning about different genders (and being given a space place to experiment at home) would have changed my life.
Parents just need to explain the world and then listen to their child's needs. If a parent needs help, they should ask for help where they can.
