People announce their orientations and genders all the time, including straight and cis people. That's what people do when they introduce themselves as Mr., Mrs. and the like. It's just that its not seen as strange when straight and cis people do it.

No one is saying they are more deserving. That's just not true. Queer people would love to not have to be defined by their gender and orientation, but because we are being actively oppressed, we sort of have to organize around these identities.
