So Ends the First Book of ‘The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One’
A Patreon exclusive about the D&D podcast I love
The following is a preview of an article; the full version can be found exclusively on my Patreon. Unlike my other articles on Medium, this preview is not paywalled. The full article can be found here.
Recently, the D&D Let’s Play podcast Worlds Beyond Number (GMed by Brennan Lee Mulligan, and played by Erika Ishii, Aabria Iyengar, and Lou Wilson) finished the first arc of its fabulous fantasy campaign ‘The Wizard, The Witch & The Wild One.’
The series is about a group of magic users trying to stop an imperialist Wizarding Empire, heralded by the Wizarding college known as the Citadel. The podcast is a pretty heavy-handed deconstruction of Empire, and how it degrades everything around it, including the environment, other cultures, and our relationships, and it’s honestly one of the best pieces of fiction I have consumed in a long time.
This review is not so much a thematic review breaking down a historical and political trend, as much as just a list of general thoughts, Screen Rant/AV Club-style (hence the reason it’s a Patreon post). So enjoy!
